March of Dimes Day at Nationals Park

March of Dimes Day at Nationals Park will be held at 1:30 p.m. Sunday, April 3, when the Nationals take on the Atlanta Braves. Discounted outfield reserved seats are available. Proceeds benefit the March of Dimes. Wear your favorite March of Dimes or March for Babies T-shirt to the game and visit us at the Community Relations kiosk. Children (ages 4 to 12) will be allowed to run the bases after the game. If you decide to come to the game as a March for Babies team (needing 20 or more tickets), please call Katherine Mitchell at (202) 640-7649.

The top five individual online fundraisers by Sunday night, March 27, are eligible to each receive a pair of tickets to the April 3 game. If you're not already raising funds online, register today. Good luck. We'll see you at the game.

Birthday Boys

34 weeks
Brad was 5lbs 14oz and 19.6 inches long
Matthew was 5lbs 0oz and 19.6 inches long
In the NICU for 2 weeks

I went in that morning for a routine physical therapy appointment to help alleviate my back pain. The therapist was concerned about the swelling in my legs and feet and decided to take my blood pressure. It was 160/100. My doctor sent me to the hospital where I stayed overnight to have tests done. The next evening, I was told that my protein levels were through the roof and they were sending me to National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda because St. Mary’s Hospital would not deliver babies less than 35 weeks without a NICU. My husband and I were transported to Bethesda via ambulance. On the way, we picked our final names just in case. Upon arrival, the doctors took vitals, did an ultrasound, and looked over my information. They diagnosed me with preeclampsia and decided to do a c-section. I had no time to get nervous and before you knew it, I had two little boys. Brad was given surfactant for his lungs and his brother was fine for the first 24 hours, but then had trouble regulating his body temperature. They were in the NICU for 2 weeks, but have had no issues at all since birth and are very healthy, active little boys. We decided doing the March of Dimes walk on May 1st, their first birthday, was the perfect way to celebrate a great year! We even made it into the local paper!

I have been a supporter since the birth of my son’s. We did the walk for the first time this year on their first birthday. We plan to continue to make the walk a birthday tradition.

Setting up a great Online Fundraising Team page makes your Family Team a great success!

Signing up, managing your team and monitoring your team’s progress ― is easy online. At www.marchforbabies.org you’ll find everything you need to help your team succeed.

1. Upload a picture of your child, family or tea.

2. Write a small narrative about why the March of Dimes is important you and your family. If you have a child or someone you love that have been touched by the March of Dimes mission then tell your story here. Your friends and family will connect with your story and are likely to send more support.

3. Create an easy-to-remember URL for your team page by clicking on “edit page” on your dashboard. Click “edit address” and scroll down to enter your company or team name under “team vanity URL.” Copy the link and include on your flyers and posters and in e-mails to make it easy for people to sign up or make their donation.

4. If you have a Facebook page or a Share your Story page, add the link on your OFT page.

5. Communicate, communicate, communicate From your team dashboard, it’s easy to import and manage e-mail lists and send e-mails to the team. Send invitations to your kickoff, updates on the team’s progress and instructions for the big event.

6. Send out an e-card to remind Friends and family as you get closer to the walk.

Other great ways to get people to your OFT page is buy adding a badge to your e-mail, Facebook application and post your OFT link on twitter. Visit our website to download all our March for Babies badges, widget, facebook applications and e-cards. There are lots of ways to get the word out about your Family Team to friends and family. Check Team Guardian Angels website and see their Family Team Page. It’s a great example of how to utilize the online fundraising tool.
